TPE 6 Developing as a Professional Educator

Introduction To get in the Holiday Spirit and keep students engaged, I taught a lesson that had a Holiday poem and it came along with a YouTube short video. Students had a copy of the poem to follow along with, we analyzed the poem, meaning behind certain words, and the message in the poem. We then completed a worksheet with comprehension questions from the poem. 6.1. Reflect on their own teaching practice and level of subject matter and pedagogical knowledge to plan and implement instruction that can improve student learning.  6.3. Establish professional learning goals and make progress to improve their practice by routinely engaging in communication and inquiry with colleagues.  6.4. Demonstrate how and when to involve other adults and to communicate effectively with peers and colleagues, families, and members of the larger school community to support teacher and student learning.  When I get together with other teachers on PLC days every other week I will run ideas pas...

TPE 5 Assessing Student Learning

Introduction:   Our school uses NWEA MAP testing for math and literacy, it is administered 3 times a school year (once a trimester). The information from the results in this test helps us see where our students are strong and where they are struggling. We also use the results to build goals for our students. 5.1. Apply knowledge of the purposes, characteristics, and appropriate uses of different types of assessments (e.g.,  diagnostic, informal, formal, progress-monitoring, formative, summative, and performance) to design and administer  classroom assessments, including use of scoring rubrics. 5.2. Collect and analyze assessment data from multiple measures and sources to plan and modify instruction and  document students' learning over time. 5.4. Use technology as appropriate to support assessment administration, conduct data analysis, and communicate  learning outcomes to students and families. The NWEA MAP Literacy test focuses on 3 main instructional a...

TPE 3 Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning

Introduction:   During the first half of the school year we have been reading a novel in class. Throughout the novel we have been exploring the different elements of a story. The first element we explored were plot of a story, now we have begun to explore literary point of view. 3.1. Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter, including the adopted California State Standards and curriculum frameworks.  The way this information is presented will cover both California State Standards and ELD standards. This is important for students because it helps in their comprehension skills, ability to write affectively, and ability to interpret information appropriately. 3.2. Use knowledge about students and learning goals to organize the curriculum to facilitate student understanding of subject matter, and make accommodations and/or mo...

Plot of a Story TPE 1: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning

Image
Introduction: This year we will be reading a novel as a class, but before we begin to read I want my students to know the different elements of a story which will help them better comprehend, engage, and relate to what they are reading. One of the lessons we will be doing before beginning our novel is called Plot of a Story. I will be providing my students with the option to complete the assignment either on google classroom or on paper. We will learn, define, and identify the different elements of a story plot. We will then read a story together and plot it on a plot graph, lastly, the students will complete a short assessment of what they have read on their own. 1.1 Apply knowledge of students, including their prior experiences, interests, and social-emotional learning needs, as well as their funds of knowledge and cultural, language, and socioeconomic backgrounds, to engage them in learning. In order to plot the story we first have to learn the definitions of each point in the ...
